God's in His Heaven, All's Right with the World

Ever have a day when everything just seemed right?

That's how today has been. Eric and I have been running like crazy for 2 months, now, and last night we decided that today was going to be our time to just put each other first. He went out first thing to get a haircut, and I was dressing the kiddos to go spend some time with their grandparents. He hadn't been gone too long, when he called to say that some guy had come into the barber shop and given away tickets to UofL's basketball game this afternoon. Would I like to go? Of course!

It's been a long time since I've been to a basketball game, and we had the best time. UofL set a school record today for the number of 3-pointers hit in one game. It was amazing--they didn't miss at all, it seemed! And it was so nice to just relax with my husband for awhile!

So then we went to pick up Kaela and Ben, and Eric's parents asked us if we'd like to go see Bee Movie. We had been wanting to see it, so after grabbing a snack, we headed out again, this time with the whole family in tow. Again, such a treat. I think this is my new favorite movie! The writing was hysterical, and I've always loved Seinfeld, anyway--it was kind of like watching his show, but for kids. I kept whispering to Eric, "This is a 4-star movie." He's like, "Yeah, yeah," but he was laughing the whole time, too. Eric's parents took us out to Bob Evans afterward, and it was just nice. (And free, too! Bonus!)

Driving home just now, the sky was amazing. Full of stars. We listened to Carrie Underwood on the radio, the children were sleeping quietly, and the smell of burning leaves permeated the air. It hit me that moments like these are what life's all about. It's days like this when I remember simpler times growing up, when I felt small and safe in the goodness of the world.

Neeny and Grandaddy knew the feeling. They named my mom after a Robert Browning poem called Pippa's Song. The last line in it goes, "God's in His Heaven, all's right with the world." I am so grateful for the moments in life when we not only know the truth of that statement, but actually feel it, too. How could we ask for more?
