We're on a schedule: sleep until 9, play hard until 4 or so, Ben takes a nap, then swim until way after dinnertime. We're staying up so late on our summer schedule! (I feel like a rebel. Ha)
Eric turned 32 this week. 32 years old. Wow. My dad was only 33 when he died. I can't believe we're almost his age. I can very distinctly remember my parents at this age, and what life was like as their children. I don't remember particularly thinking they were young--they were so grown up and responsible.
Kaela, Ben, and I made Eric an ice-cream birthday cake. It looked like this:
Yes, those are gummy worms on top. He's a fisherman. And yes, we did use sparklers for candles. We have enough sparklers to last until 2063, and the kids thought they were cool! :) He said it was the best birthday he's ever had. I think he says that every year, but we won't tell him. We love you, Eric!
We went to Breckinridge County again today, this time to the county fair. We got stuck on the Ferris wheel (it wasn't loaded properly), I got sick on the Tilt-a-Whirl, we saw 9 wrecks in the 4-wheeler racing ring (whoo-hoo!!), and we got to be on the radio. What big fun we had! Mom and Pop went with us, too. We had so much fun with you, Grammy & Pop!
In other fascinating news, we watched a decent movie--The Bucket List. Things you want to accomplish before you "kick the bucket." I think I'm going to start one for myself. It'll help me set goals. I did find an online list of books to read before you die. I've already read all but two of them, and I'm not sure I want to read the last two, so I guess I'm doing all right. (Either that, or I've got one foot in the grave and I'm standing on a banana peel.)
Other than that, we're not up to much. We go to the zoo, swim, enjoy play dates with friends we can't get together with much during the school year, and just enjoy our days together. Kaela is practicing reading, swimming on her own, and considering letting us take the training wheels off her bike. Ben keeps us in stitches, and tries to do everything Kaela does. They are growing so fast, and these are such sweet times.
I hope you're having a fabulous summer! If you've got any fun stories to share, leave me a comment! I love to read them!
