But it's been a nice summer, money hemorrhage notwithstanding. We have visited Mammoth Cave (We told the kids there are bats and fish with no eyes because it's so dark in there. Then we took the cheapy self-guided tour, and saw no cave life at all. Kaela was unimpressed, and asked us please to not take her to anymore cold holes in the ground. Ben was a good sport, though we had to pull him off the more rustic trails more than once.)
We spent the 4th of July at home, and the kids rode their bikes in a neighborhood bike parade. It ended up being overcast and chilly, but look at this turnout! We shot off fireworks in the rain that night out in front of our house.
And then there was the wedding long weekend. It is SO GOOD to have all the brothers home, and it is so short-lived these days. We enjoyed our time together swimming, hanging out, making preparations, and telling stories.
All of this driving has given me tons of reading time, and I'm halfway through the Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers. Can I just say how much her writing challenges me? Makes me dig into my Bible more? Makes me more grateful and more humble and....well, she just makes me think. If you haven't read her, you should. We also got a girls' book club up and going, so we are reading a book on hospitality. It's been great, and I've so enjoyed getting together weekly with girls from our church and building new friendships (although Kim, if you still read this, we MISS you!!)
This post is kind of just a test to see how easily this little (tiny!) beast uploads photos. If it is as easy as everything else appears to be on this machine, I will have to join the ranks of those weird Mac people who stick the stickers on their cars and talk OS X talk....it really is incredibly different. Here you go:

Ditto what you said about Francine Rivers. I am always touched and challenged in my walk by her books. I like all of her work, but Mark of the Lion is my favorite, and I reread them every couple of years (Just finished them again a few weeks ago!) I see myself in Hadassah's constant battle with fear, and her struggle to know how and when to share the saving news of Christ with others.
Congrats on your new computer. I keep hearing great things about Mac!
Katrina--Rose gave me Redeeming Love several years ago. It rode around in my trunk for 2 years, as historical fiction isn't my favorite genre. And then one day I had nothing else to read, and I picked it up, and I cried through the whole thing. The depths of God's love hit me like a punch. Wow. Why me??
The Mark of the Lion was the only set of her books I hadn't read, and I was avoiding them for kinda the same reason. Ancient Rome? Eew! But I can't put them down. I read half the night. Right now they're on the temple stairs choosing a discarded slave to save, and I'm so convicted. Hadassah doesn't know any medicine...but you're right. The way she shares her faith and ministers challenges me, too.
Wish you could come to KY and play on the Mac. It's cool. :)
"See you" soon!
