Saturday, we went to the beach down by Mom's house to enjoy the sunshine and be near the water, after a long visit with them and an early Easter egg hunt.
Except the sun didn't shine, and the water was waaaay low.
So instead of hanging out at the beach, we went to the playground by the state park, and Kaela and Ben played in the sand and on the swings well past naptime and into the early evening. Ben was getting dramatic (as he does when he misses naptime), and when Kaela picked up a handful of sand from his "castle moat," he got so mad at her he picked up a handful of sand and threw it at her.
I put him in timeout, and told him to keep his hands, feet, and body off the sand while he sat there, watching everyone else play for a few minutes.
He stuck out his lip, quivered all over, and said, "Fine. Den I will be a own-wy, own-wy, owner."
"What?" I asked.
He started to cry hard and repeated, "I will always be a own-wy, own-wy, owner."
I had no idea what he was talking about, and I can usually make sense of his speech. He was REALLY worked up, and pitifully sad. So I asked him to repeat it for Kaela. WAILING, he repeated it.
Kaela cracked up, and told me, "He said, "Fine, then I will always be a lonely, lonely loner from now on."
I tried so hard not to laugh.
