I teach kids every single day that writing serves a purpose. We read for a reason, and authors write for a reason. Even the most fanciful poems have a job to do--an emotion to evoke, or a wistfulness to bestow.
Thinking about life's purpose right now. Specifically, how at times the compass seems to be facing due North and everything's on the right track, but then you realize you've been blown off course again...distracted by things that are good, but not Good.
Not the Main Purpose.
How do you go about finding the Author's purpose? What if you misinterpret, or gather a meaning that was never intended? How do you KNOW?
You've got to know your author. Find out what else he's written....use your knowledge of who he was in the past to infer what it is he's trying to say in the present and predict what he will say in the future.
Reading my favorite Author lots this week.
Purposefully.
Carefully.
Needing to find North again.
