A Bad Week and a Good Friday

There is too much going on to even blog about. We laid off teachers this week; Eric's been moved to second shift (but he still has a job, at least for now, praise the Lord!--we just won't see him much); my friend whose children I teach has a brain tumor being biopsied as I type this--and she's my age and has always been healthy; a student of mine is living through horrific life circumstances, and he's been explosive and dangerous the past couple of days; a friend's husband confessed to cheating for years... It seems as though everywhere I look, there are things going on that can only be fixed with a supernatural touch.

Today is Good Friday--the day my Saviour was put to death to conquer the pain and mess that sin causes in this world. There is so much of the junk out there. This Easter, maybe more than any other, I am focused on the One who has already overcome. Clinging to what He's accomplished already. I'm looking forward to seeing the practical part of that sacrifice come to fruition--where there are no more tears, or death, or suffering.

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. 17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written,
18 “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME,
BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR.
HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES,
AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND,
TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,
19 TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.”
20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:16-21
