Last week I had to call a substitute so I could go into another teacher's classroom and mentor all day. SubFinder randomly selected my sub. During the day, I would pop back into my classroom since I had no place to roost, and I would find my sub. reading his Bible, or showing safari pictures to my kids. I asked questions.
He's been at school 3 times in the past week, and I've had a chance to talk to him more. He's 2 years out of seminary, and he and his wife have spent that time in Uganda as missionaries. They've just had their first child. He says I can share the YouTube video of their real African safari (I love the music in this one) and his blog link. It's been like a breath of fresh air around school lately.
There are days that I feel like the last place in the entire world that I want to spend my one shot at life is in "Comfortable, USA" where I teach 99.9% white children in a job that is my dream job in a school that is my dream school in 5th grade forever. Who achieves all their dreams by the time they're 32, anyway? Isn't it time to dream new dreams, then? This is one of those days....
Enjoy.
