Photos

The header photo is a shot of two of my brothers, taken last year in Maine. It makes me laugh. The entire roll of film from that day makes me laugh. Check out the sidebar for a couple more. You can pretend that this header is centered. I give up.

Today was the best day ever. IKEA, the aquarium, then dinner with my favorite girls. The one where we're practicing our best poses...then the real shot. :-) Love these girls!

I got wonderful news Sunday. I had planned to set up my classroom this week and start divvying up files. BUT...the school is not finished being cleaned, so we are not allowed in the building for another week. It's like a gift--an unexpected week, unscheduled.
Bliss.

In IKEA today, I took about 100 pictures of fabrics I adore, interesting chair forms, and light fixtures. Not literally 100--but close enough that I should be embarrassed. I decided as we drove home that if I ever get to that point where I cannot weep one. more. time. over an intense meeting, that I will design things. That day may come sooner rather than later, as I'm looking for a funeral dirge to play on repeat on my IPod as summer comes to an end....

I'm mourning, but last week was pretty cool. Our county has a festival in the town square in July each year. We always go through the booths and the kids jump on the jumpies, then we park ourselves under a tree and listen to the gospel quartets. It's more social for me--a ton of people are out. Anyway, this year's festival was teeming with former students. SUCCESSFUL former students. My kids are our local first responders now--EMTs. They are starting up a body shop, leading the high school band, and mentoring other kids with various cognitive and social disabilities. Two of the boys, seniors this year, are taking me to lunch this week. They are huge now, but haven't forgotten. It absolutely made my day when they ran out to give me big hugs. I am so very proud.

After we walked through the booths, Kaela wanted to try a dunking booth. The first throw, she missed the entire board. The second throw, she dunked a firefighter!! I laughed SO HARD....she was so sheepish, because, of course, she would never throw anything at anyone. Ever. She looked guilty and delighted all at once, and the best picture I got of the debacle is the one where she's eyeing the fire captain with uncertainty as he gives her the ball. "You want me to throw WHAT?!" But I missed her expression! It was PRICELESS.

The last set of pictures are from a visit we took to see friends. Three mamas and eight kiddos spent a wonderful afternoon on the beach, talking, building sand castles, and trying to avoid lightning strikes. First time I've ever swum with my hair standing straight up with electricity.... Crazy!!
