In Honor of Mother's Day

I got this idea from Marsha Glas' blog. To try to reflect on life as a mommy is such a silly thing to even attempt, but I thought it would be a good idea to simply provide a list of some of my favorite things about being a mom:

*Watching my belly jump when I was pregnant and they would get hiccups

*Being able to cure any ill in the entire world with a hug and a kiss

*Pillow talk (Kaela and Ben are both soooo sweet right before bed when they're sleepy. They declare their love a hundred times every night, it seems)

*Having to create a habitat out of acorn caps every time one of them finds a grub or slug or ant

*Feeling that intense vulnerability every time one of them gets in the car with someone else, leaves for preschool, slides down a big slide, skins a knee, climbs on a bike, goes on a field trip, or wants to run over to a friend's to play. Letting them be out of reach even for a minute reminds me again how precious they are to me, and how very much I wish I could always keep them safe.

*Making up silly songs

*Watching Veggie Tales and seeing Ben's head bob along to Silly Songs with Larry

*Having Kaela tell me I will always be her best friend

*Listening to them play together, and seeing how their own relationship is growing

*Pulling loose teeth

*Giggles

*Teaching Ben to pee off the deck into the grass (if you knew how happy this makes him, you wouldn't question this choice. ha)

*Praying together (Ben is so earnest, and will keep his little eyes closed and head bowed forever if we asked him to)

*Letting them have fruit snacks or mandarin oranges, which is the biggest deal in the world to them

*Baby massages after baths

*Cuddling in Daddy & Mommy's bed on Saturday mornings to watch Tom and Jerry

*Crafts that come home every day with hearts and love written on them

*Open-mouthed baby kisses that extend into the 2nd or 3rd year

*Squishy baby thighs, covered in rolls, and as soft as butterfly wings

*When they wake up at night every once in a while calling, "I just want you, Mommy." I don't care what time it is or what I have to do in the morning. I love when they wake up wanting me.

*When they tell me all about their Sunday School lessons, and I realize they actually got it!

*Poop in the bathtub

*Every minute of every day since they've been born. Surely, my cup runneth over.

Happy Mother's Day!
