Random thoughts

1) American Idol is the funniest. show. ever. Especially the bad auditions. I can't stop laughing!!!! My word--Facebook commentary + Simon commentary=sore sides tomorrow!!!! So sad that not all of my friends agree.... ;-)

2) One of my kids told me today that I have power like the sun. He just looks at me, and can't help smiling. He tries to avoid me when he's grouchy, but the power overtakes him and he just wants to joke around with me instead, and his bad mood goes away.
I've taught 9 years. If a kid says something that great once every decade, I'll be able to retire from this job without losing my mind. It absolutely made my day. Way better than book dodging, for sure.

3) The kid who bought me plain white socks for Christmas blew his entire allowance today on classroom supplies for me from our bookstore. Totally out of the blue. He said a boy should be able to buy his teacher a gift if he wants to, even two weeks after Christmas break and his last gift. I wonder if they can sense when I'm on the brink of insanity?

4) 5th graders are the absolute best. I just want to squeeze their cheeks and make squishy noises. Sometimes I give in to that impulse...they don't prefer that.

5) Kaela is the cutest cheerleader ever!!! I will get her first ballgame photos up tomorrow. I forgot my camera today. She was so peppy and not shy at all! We LOVE the Upward program, and love that half the kids in my school are participating. Makes you feel good about the state of the world when that's the case.

6) I am heartbroken about the earthquake in Haiti. I almost can't wrap my mind around it. It's never far from my thoughts or prayers today. :-( Pat Robertson's comments hurt my heart.

7) Seven more minutes of American Idol!

8) One of these days, we will take our Christmas tree down. Maybe.

9) One time I climbed up on Neeny's roof so she could have Christmas lights on the outside of her house for once. After Christmas, it got super cold and snowy (like it has this year). The lights stayed up until early February. One day I got to her house after class, and she had put a sign on the lights (hanging down at the front door) that said, Happy Easter!!! Smarty pants. Goodness, I miss that cut up!!

10) Do you think people would believe that we have an Easter tree? No? Hmmm...I promise we'll take it down....

11) Just missed the end of Idol.
