Stream of consciousness quick thoughts on NYC

I'm home. I'll blog more and put pictures on here in the next few days. In the meantime, I just wanted to capture a few thoughts from my trip to the big city!

*Fantasia Barrino on Broadway singing the part of Celie in The Color Purple
is like seeing a real Van Gogh vs. the framed print in Garden Ridge. I've heard her on American Idol. I heard a lot of other incredible singers. But there are no words to describe the power of hearing her voice live. It put goosebumps on the insides of my cheeks. There is just something different about being in the presence of someone with a true gift. It was incredible.

*I like trees. And lots of them. I am more interested in conservation efforts today than I was last week.

*Jim and Carol Cymbala are even nicer and warmer in person than their books would lead you to think--and after all these years serving in Brooklyn, that surprised me.

*I heart Bill Pullman.

*I do not heart some of the low points of humanity we saw late at night in the city. I understand "salt and light" differently now. And I saw real pockets of it. Like in the middle of Brooklyn. I heard kingdom discussions in McDonalds, and knew God was in the house!

*Music and smiles are infectious, and readily available to all of us.

*There are very few things I love in this world more than my brothers.

*I have seen the best shows, heard the best music, tasted the best food, and experienced the best sights this world has to offer. Being in the presence of greatness is so inspiring. It makes me want to strive for more beauty and higher standards in my own life. There is always good reason to set the bar high, and this trip helped me to remember that!

*I heart New York!

*There's no place like home.
