The other day, the wind knocked our power out. Eric had just left for work, and my car was stuck in the garage with the garage door down. (We have since learned how to open it when this happens). When he saw the lights go out, he turned around to come get us and take us to school, but his detour was going to make him late for a big meeting. As we were driving, suddenly the car in front of us stopped in the middle of the road--and just sat there. We waited for a few minutes, then Eric decided to pass. The lady then jumped out of her car, in front of ours, and yelled, "Watch out for the live wire!!" And there, just in front of us, was the source of our power loss--a sparking, huge live wire that had fallen right across the road. We weren't able to see the sparks from the car, and would have driven right over it. The lady showed us a detour, we called LG&E and 911, and that lady stood there in the rain and directed traffic until LG&E arrived.
I told my students that story that morning, and we determined to "pay it forward" to other strangers together. The kids told their parents, and they've been excited about it. We have had so much fun since then trying to outdo each other. And the blessing of surprising people has got me determined to continue looking for random ways to serve others.
Here are a couple more stories:

Praise God for the Good Samaritans out there who remember what Christmas is all about, then encourage others by paying it forward. (An excellent movie to jumpstart your creative juices, in case you haven't seen it).
