Quick Staff Getaway

This weekend, my school staff took a "girls excursion/retreat" to Cincinnati for shopping (they have IKEA & Homegoods there!), dinner, overnight, and early breakfast, made-to-order, in our suite. It was a "girls trip" because there are only 3 males in our entire school, and that includes the custodial staff. We didn't invite them. :-) I teased them about being too old to spend the whole weekend away, but drove up late Saturday, spent the night, then came back early Sunday morning.

It was fun, but exhausting--such a quick trip! My friend Katie (far left, blue shirt) and I were the youngest ones there, and they called us the Grandmas.. She teaches 4th grade right across the hall from me, and we're pretty similar. (It cracks me up how my church friends call me the free spirit, and my school friends tease me about being "old!" Probably somewhere in the middle is a more apt description. I'm not old! I'm very adventuresome--just not a party-er, so whatever you call THAT...) Stacey (Kaela's teacher & the other Grandma of the group) says she hasn't stayed up til 3 a.m. since she was nursing a newborn. :-) That's just sad. We did Saturday, cutting up in our pajamas, telling stories, and eating pizza. Sunday got here all too quickly!

Here's a picture on the way to dinner. Most of the girls are K/1 teachers, and I don't work directly with them--so it was fun getting to know the people on the other end of the building!

They look all cute, too, but these are also some super hard-working teachers, who really love their students. It was fun comparing stories! It was good bonding time, because for the next 2 weeks we are going to spending lots of time together, between conferences and all the meetings we have to hold. Ugh. Let the insanity begin.

No more trips on the horizon for awhile. New York will have to wait until after Christmas. We did talk about the next time our staff gets together (in the spring). We are taking our daughters, as all but one of us have daughters the same age, and manis and pedis were discussed. Kaela cannot wait. She was so miffed that we didn't include her in our "slumber party."
