My mom totally rocks. She's the best mom in the whole world, seriously. She's the nicest person I've ever met--as in, she doesn't even have mean thoughts. Ever.
She's brilliant, too. (Sorry, Mom, but it's true.) She can be cutting up with a friend on the phone and still attacking the daily crossword puzzle in her mind--she can finish one of those beasts in under an hour and still teach piano lessons and give her children a hard time on the phone! She's also a little bit random, has the world's goofiest sense of humor, and always answers her phone with a laugh in her voice because she set the ring tone to some funny voice, and it still cracks her up months later. We give her such a hard time, and then every time we take a Facebook quiz, we laugh because it turns out we're exactly alike...
So yesterday, after work I stopped by the funeral home then came home and our phone was disconnected. I thought it had to be construction, at first, as they're building a house across the street from us and the crews had been here all week. So I grabbed the latest statement that I hadn't even opened because I knew the phone bill was due on the 24th....and the first line read, "We have been trying to reach you for quite some time...." and I realized that I hadn't paid. SHOOT! Because now there's a reconnection fee, plus the embarrassment of having to go to a neighbor's to use the phone to pay the bill since I can't even find my cell phone...and I got really tired of being random for a few minutes. It had been a rough day, and I was beating myself up over the phone thing--mad because it was gong to cost money for my stupid oversight...so as soon as I got it paid and reconnected, I called Mom to vent.
Mom answered the phone with the laugh in her voice as always, and when I told her what I had done, she laughed even harder and said she has done the same thing. Which just made both of us laugh, because daggonit, we may be half out of our minds most days, but we're in good company! So when I hung up, I was still just cracking up like a kid, and I realized that it's not even funny which made it just that much more funny....because there are a lot worse people for me to end up like than my Mama!! :) Love you, Mom!
