Snowed In~!

There was a snowstorm here yesterday and through the night that dropped a foot of snow on us! What a cool storm it was, too, complete with thunder and lightning!
This morning I took the funniest picture--there's a huge snowdrift on the roof that is sliding down to hang over the door. Kind of like if someone were sitting above the doorjam about to drop a bucket of water on the next unsuspecting suspect to pass through. I've been kinda tickled all day, wondering who the avalanche will fall on. (I'm sure that's foreshadowing somehow). It's still there.

Kaela had a sleepover last night, and there are 6 friends here now. They've played well all day together, sledding and playing school, building a snow fort, and watching movies. Eric and I have kept our sanity to this point, playing outside with them, and earlier I thought the sounds of laughter were just so sweet. We made snow cream and hot chocolate, and took lots of pictures (none of which will load today. I heart blogger)

Now, though, I'm worn out. They came in from the last bout of outdoor play cold and covered in snow. I let them warm their feet in a warm bath downstairs, unsupervised. Not a brilliant move. I just heard this: "Uh, Mom? We have a major problem here." I shudder to look.

One of them just slipped on a puddle on the landing. The whining has begun. Ben bit his sister. The dog refuses to get snow on her feet. They're not falling for "Oooh! Let's play 'Quiet as a Mouse'!" anymore. I think it's a good time for a nap. Or to sneak away to the tropics, unnoticed...

I remember being snowed in with my family in '94. We played games by the kerosene heater, went to bed at dark, and fought and laughed and debated vehemently. My parents probably wanted to sleep out in the snow rather than with us. It is one of my favorite memories of growing up with my brothers. I hope Kaela doesn't forget this weekend, either! :)
