Stuff

Aaargh. We've been so excited all week because kindergarten registration is tonight, and my sweet pea is coming to 'big girl' school next year! We've been reading books about kindergarten, practicing our sight words, discussing what her teacher may be like, and giggling into the night about how many crayons and markers there are in kindergarten. Last week, I took her with me and showed her the cafeteria and the climbing wall in the gym...she's pumped up! What a big day this was to be!

So we're in the car preparing to go to signups, hair's all cute, expectations are high (the teachers will be there, you know..). I run in the house to grab her birth certificate...and it's not where it has been for the past 5 years! 90 minutes later, we still haven't found it. Registration ends in 20 minutes. We're not going to make it. She's not crying, but she's close. We're both so disappointed.

I'm looking at the positive...on my day off Friday, we will take a little road trip together to our state's capitol, and we'll find a fun place for lunch. It will be fun, right? Just a short detour... we'll get her registered in plenty of time.

In the meantime, if you call me this week, you'll likely hear the whirrr of the paper shredder in the background (if I'm not stamping my feet and fuming in frustration). I'll be going through our files. While I'm at it, I'll get a bunch of stuff ready for Goodwill, and put some toys away to be cycled through again later. The "stuff" in life makes me nuts sometimes. That's why there's a term, "spring cleaning," I guess. I must not be the first Mom in the world to be frustrated with the accumulated things that accompany winter.

We'll make Friday great, though. We will! I'm already beginning to look forward to our little road trip. (Hope it doesn't snow...)

I have some advice for her, and I hope that she will listen and take it to heart.
"Fail kindergarten! Your academic career only goes downhill from there... Trust me. I know about these things."
