The Price of Tea in China

One funny thing I remember about my Dad is that if you asked him if he was going to go somewhere, he would reply with something like, "Well, it depends on the price of tea in China." I think he meant, "We'll see...something could come up." I've heard other regional versions something to the effect of, "Good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise...." which is kinda the same deal.

I thought about Dad just now when I went to the grocery. Because I don't know what happened to the price of tea in China, but I did notice that when I left at 6:30, the cost of gas was appalling at $3.64/gallon, and when I returned just an hour later, the price had jumped to $3.75/gallon!! In the meantime, I considered and put back vegetable oil for $2.84 (last time I bought it, it was about $1.19), cheese for $4.84/bag, and eggs which were, oh, I don't remember. Enough to make me want to buy my own chickens. This is crazy!

We're going out this weekend to look for seeds and plants. I think it's a really good time to learn to garden--really garden. (Go ahead and laugh, if you know me. It can't be that hard, right?) How are you dealing with the rise in the cost of...everything? Have you made any major changes? Cut back on any luxuries?
