Kaela: Mom, Ben's laughing at me because I dropped the hammer on my foot!
Me: Ben, come here. (he enters sheepishly) Are you laughing at your sister when she's hurt?
Ben: (HUGE grin) Uh-huh! (proud pronouncement) She drop a hammer on her foot!
Me: Ben, when your sister is hurt, we don't laugh at her. We make sure she's OK! You hurt her feelings. You need to tell her you're sorry for laughing.
Ben: But I not sorry!
Me: Then you'll need to sit in time-out and think about it. Your sister is hurt. You love your sister, and when she's hurt it's not funny.
Ben: But, Mom! I didn't fro the hammer at her! I just laughin' about it! I still yuv (love) her!
By then, Kaela was cracking up, too. There's just no arguing with 2-year old logic!
